Which rod should I buy? A lot of fly fishers are unsure if they should buy a Vintage or an Evolution. While both are extraordinary rods, there are some defining characteristics of each that you must take into consideration.
Vintage rods excel at: Evolution Rods Excel at: Please note that these are very general guidelines. We have gone to great lengths to make both of these rods perform well over a wide range of fishing circumstances. Just a note on casting strokes. Some people, mostly casters who currently fish with medium fast to fast action, progressive action rods and have moderate to low casting ability, have trouble casting the Vintage. This is because that have been trained by their rods that a sloppy, overpowered casting stroke with poor timing will get the job done. When people have trouble with the Vintage, the problem is not that the Vintage doesn't cast well, it's that they don't cast well. This is not meant to be ignorant. It's just that this needs to be put into perspective. The proof that the Vintage is a fine casting rod is how easy it is to cast for raw beginners, and how perfectly it performs in the hands of an experienced caster. The Vintage is not a hard rod to cast, it just takes a little time for some people to learn to slow down and let the rod do the work. They will just about cast themselves. Vintage rods are not for everyone though, and are not the perfect choice for every situation. That is why we designed the Evolution. They are perfect for larger water where longer casts and larger flies are the norm, or for anyone who simply prefers a faster action rod. |
