Vintage Series 

   McFarland Vintage series rods are unlike any other rods available.  Our unique fiber oriented scrim has allowed us to design a rod that loads to the grip with only a few feet of line, yet will lay out a 100 foot cast when called upon.  The Vintage is a very specialized rod that flexes throughout the entire length of the rod similar to bamboo or fiberglass but at about a quarter of the weight. Vintage rods also have a much higher sense of line feel than bamboo or glass as a result of our unique scrim and taper design.  You have to cast one of these rods to believe it.  Vintage rods load immediately.  Not with 30 feet of line.  Not with 20 feet of line.  You can actually feel a Vintage load when casting just a leader and fly.  However, these rods are not just made for ultra short casts.  You can easily fish dry flies with these rods at 60 to 70 feet. 

   You can think of the Vintage as a bamboo rod made out of graphite.  Only in a fine bamboo rod will you find the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.  We sell a lot of Vintage rods to bamboo fishermen who prefer not to fish a rare, valuable, and relatively fragile cane rod every day, but were unable to find a graphite rod that met their standards and appealed to their casting style. 

   Vintage rods fish as well as they cast.  They are the perfect rods for selective trout and demanding waters such as spring creeks.  The two most critical elements when fishing for selective trout are presentation and tippet protection and Vintage rods excel at both.  Vintage rods allow precise casts and perfect  loops without excessive line speed that causes the line to smack the water and spook fish.  The soft action of these rods also acts like a shock absorber while fighting large fish.  A Vintage rod will not only allow you to make the perfect presentation to a trophy trout, it will also let you land him on 7x tippet.

   Vintage rods are built on 3 piece blanks with a beautiful dark green finish.  Guides are wrapped in matching dark green thread with very fine metallic silver trim wraps at the ferrules and inscription area.  We use the finest German silver reel seats with highly figured burled wood spacers.  We import our cork directly from Portugal to ensure the absolute finest grips available with a unique shape that is perfectly suited to a sensitive rod like the Vintage.  Vintage rods also come with a handmade bag and a matching green aluminum rod tube with the McFarland logo and feature the McFarland lifetime warranty.
