Around here fiberglass rods aren't Retro.

If there is one place on Earth where glass rods have remained popular since their introduction, it is Central Pennsylvania.  Especially in the quiet little town of Spruce Creek.  Spruce Creek is not only home to the legendary stream and its legendary trout, but also to some of the best fly fishers you will ever meet.  People who are unimpressed with fads and market trends.  People who know what a real fly rod should be.  Our Spruce Creek Series has become an instant success with local guides and anglers for fighting big Spruce Creek trout on light tippets.

Glass rods are not about high-tech modern advancements, light weight, and high line speed.  They are about that unmistakable, sweet action that only glass can provide.  Knowing this, we stayed "old school" in the design of the Spruce Creek Series. We passed on the new and so-called "improved" fiberglass materials and used a traditional, time-tested glass material.  The only modern feature is an enhanced resin system that provides an increased sense of  line feel during casting. This glass material combined with our excellent taper design has produced one of the smoothest rods you will ever cast.  The taper design of the Spruce Creek Series provides a soft, full flex action, yet allows surprisingly tight loops at short to medium distances making these rods perfect for small streams as well as spring creeks.  Spruce Creek rods are available in 3 or 5 piece models, and our beautiful "tempered cane" colored blanks provide a very "bamboo-like" appearance.  We offer the Spruce Creek Series in two versions; our exquisite Presentation Grade or the more affordable Stream Grade.

Spruce Creek Series Presentation Grade
The are model numbers beginning with "P" above.

Our Presentation Grade rods feature the very finest components available including engraved German silver reel seats with burled-wood inserts, flor grade cork grips, and genuine Snake Brand guides.  Snake Brand guides are the absolute finest guides available.  They feature flawless plating for a perfectly smooth finish and are extremely light weight to enhance your rod's casting performance.  Like the finest bamboo rods of the past, our presentation grade rods also feature genuine Agate stripping guides that are hand made exclusively for these rods.  These very unique guides feature highly figured inserts that are hand selected to complement the "tempered cane" color of the Spruce Creek Series.  These Agate guides are truly unique and set these rods apart from any other rods on the stream. Presentation Grade rods also come with a hand made cloth bag and our unique bronze coated tube with a solid brass cap and collar that is engraved with the McFarland oak leaf logo.  Like all McFarland rods, the Presentation Grade is hand signed and serial numbered and comes with the McFarland Lifetime warranty.

Spruce Creek Series Stream Grade
The are model numbers beginning with "S" above.

Our Stream Grade version of the Spruce Creek Series is built on the same great blank as the Presentation Grade with more modest components.  Stream grade rods feature a nickel silver finish reel seat with cocobola insert, select grade cork, and standard hard chrome snake guides.  Stream Grade rods come in a hand-made cloth bag and our green powder coated aluminum tube with the McFarland logo.  Stream Grade rods are a tremendous value and feature a level of quality that is as good as, or better than, any other glass rod we've seen at any price, with the exception of our own Presentation Grade rods.
